I'm enjoying my week off here in New York. It's a good time to catch up on small errands and do fun things around the city.
Took a friend today to the new MOMA. It was my fourth time taking people through the museum. Best thing I;ve done this year is become a member -- you get to skip the lines (which were an hour and a half) and you don;t have to pay $20 each time you go.
I was a little disappointed that the Rosenquist on the 6th floor is already taken down. It was so beautiful across from the Elsworth Kelly "Sculpture for a Large Wall" -- they are installing the UBS collection I guess so they had to make room.
The Pollocks continue to amaze -- as do the Mondrian's. The Gustav Klimt's looked fresh to me today to. Maybe I just spent more time up close and personal with them.
Judd looked great with Flavin, Andre, Ryman and Lewitt. I love minimalism. I love that they really believed painting to be dead.
On the mezzanine they've hung a great Agnes Martin. She died two weeks ago and although there is another upstairs they gave her a great spot. Martin always makes me think of Felix Gonzales-Torres who quoted her grids to do his "Declining Bloodwork" series -- one piece of art that always makes me cry.
There is also my favorite piece of art -- maybe ever -- which I may have mentioned on the blog before but I will do again -- it's Felix's "Perfect Lovers" a portrait of he and his boyfriend -- in perfect harmony. I love this piece. Maybe one day Andrea will find me one of the edition and I'll be able to afford it.
OK -- MOMA rocks. The crowds get me down, but it makes me happy to see that many people in a museum -- even if it makes it hard for me to see some of the work.
